EU-WATERRES
From 01 Sep 2020 to 31 Dec 2023, SE Zahidukrgeologiya participated in the implementation of the international project No.2018-1-0137 EU-WATERRES: EU-Integrated Management System of Cross-Border Groundwater Resources and Anthropogenic Hazards.
The Project main objective is promoting coordinated management and protection of transboundary groundwater, increasing the effectiveness of international cooperation in the field of transboundary groundwater monitoring and quality control.
The Project Lead Partner is Polish Geological Institute. Partners include Geological Survey of Latvia, University of Latvia, Geological Survey of Norway, Geological Survey of Estonia, Intergraph Polska Sp. z o.o., as well as our Ukrainian colleagues, namely SE Ukrainian Geological Company and the Institute for Geology and Geochemistry of Mineral Resources of the NAS of Ukraine.
The Project was implemented using grant funds totalling EUR 2.7 million provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the European Economic Area and Norway Regional Cooperation Grant Fund.
Project main outputs are as follows:
- Establishment of a monitoring network, including groundwater resource assessment, data harmonisation, modelling the effect of water abstraction on the
water balance, and development of a methodology and programme for cross-border monitoring.
- Groundwater security and pollution risk research aimed at developing groundwater protection and management programmes to assess the status and prevent pollution and depletion threats.
- Creation of the EU-Waterres geoportal, the first EU project that combined hydrogeological information from EU countries and Ukraine, providing user-friendly access to data on groundwater and its condition.
