Participants discussed the implementation of projects involving geothermal energy and carbon dioxide capture and storage

Viktor Novikov, head of the Nadra Ukraine delegation, took part in a working meeting with the management of the international energy company Baker Hughes. The meeting took place within the framework of the Baker Hughes Annual Meeting 2026 conference. The chairman of the board of Nadra Ukraine presented the key areas of the company's activities to the meeting participants, as well as the potential for using geothermal energy and creating underground storage facilities for carbon dioxide in Ukraine.

"It is important for us not only to discuss global trends, but also to implement specific technological solutions. Last summer, we launched a partnership with Baker Hughes by signing memoranda of understanding in the field of geothermal energy and CO₂ capture and storage. Work on their implementation is currently underway,“ said Viktor Novikov. ”Geothermal energy and CO₂ storage projects have significant potential for Ukraine, and international partnerships play a key role in their implementation."

During the meeting, the parties discussed strategic directions for the transformation of the energy sector in the context of global change. The focus was on modern technological solutions that enable the effective use of geothermal potential, reduce the carbon footprint, and ensure a stable energy supply.

“For Ukraine, which has been at war with the insidious Russian aggressor for several years now, this issue has become existential. For us, it is not only a ‘green’ technology, but also a tool for energy security and post-war recovery,” emphasized the Chairman of the Board of NAK Nadra Ukraine.

The working meeting with Baker Hughes management was an important step in developing practical cooperation and deepening strategic partnership. It allowed the parties to synchronize their vision for the implementation of joint projects, discuss the possibilities of adapting advanced technological solutions to Ukrainian conditions, and outline further steps in the field of geothermal energy and CO₂ capture and storage, taking into account the priorities of energy security and sustainable development.

It should be noted that NJSC Nadra Ukraine and SE Zakhidukrgeologiya are actively developing international partnerships in the field of geothermal energy.
